Nice to meet you! My name is airi. I use acrylic to express the theme of feeling transparency within colors. I am interested in the complexity of femininity within a man and masculinity within a woman, and express it in my artworks.
Airi was born in 1988 and raised in an environment full of nature in Japan, called Aomori. Since she was little, she had both girl and guy friends. She would draw with the girls, and go exploring with the boys.
When she was attending an art college in Yamagata, she became fascinated by the bisexual town, Shinjuku 2-chome in Tokyo.
Surrounded by nature her whole life, she interpreted this town as a mixture of society’s light and dark aspects, and an unique yet toxic place.
The people there covered up their flaws with glitter, but when she talked to them, they were surprisingly sensitive and especially serious about romance. She felt art in such people.
Since meeting them, airi started drawing colorful artworks with acrylic paint, and she started wanting people to feel transparency when looking inside the colors. This transparency represents the sensitive parts of those who live in Shinjuku 2-chome.
She does not particularly draw artworks that are loved by all. Instead, she draws in hopes of reaching out to those who are especially thinking about their gender. Her goal as an artist is to create happy artworks that do not discriminate.
She would sometimes draw humans or animals, but in the end, she hopes that the subjects in her artworks are having a fun time.
Her exhibition histories include, 2019 special exhibition at Boji Hair Gallery in Tokyo (2 times), special exhibition at Gallery 1095 in Miyagi, special exhibition at Hachinohe Saigado in Aomori, 2020 special exhibition at Boji Hair Gallery in Tokyo (3 times), special exhibition at Upstairs Gallery in Tokyo, and special exhibition at Onomichi Cat Cafe Gallery in Tokyo. She started actively participating in activities in 2019.
She started her art activities because of Instagram. Before that, she did not know how to present her artworks to the world. However, as soon as she started Instagram, many art galleries and artists reached out to her, and significantly increased her range of activities.
She would like to continue enjoying her art activities, while giving and taking inspirations.
