Nice to meet you. I am calligrapher Kanwu. I believe that beautiful things heal and enrich the heart and soul. Sumi (calligraphy ink) art has a quiet passion. From the bottom of my heart, I pray that everyone spends each day with peace and happiness.

Kanwu Ishizaki

Kanwu is a calligrapher and Gogyoka (five-line Japanese poet) born in Kanagawa. She started calligraphy at the age of 6 and met her current master at the age of 25. By writing her own poems in calligraphy, she learned about the joys of self-expression. Since then, she does not limit herself with traditional calligraphy and explores the endless possibilities of calligraphy as art. In recent years, she has received attention for her calligraphy performance and her abstract artwork on bukusho has become very popular. The powerful, yet delicate and the sweet, yet dramatic form of expression is the distinct feature in her artwork. With the hope of expressing herself across borders with sumi (Japanese ink) expressions, she devotes her time on creating.
