Kohava Ray - Photographer - JCAT artist

Kohava Ray is a photographer, photopoet and visual artist from Osaka Japan, always fascinated by the visual sphere she occupies. She completed her BFA at Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania, and in 2002 was selected for a fellowship at the Poznan Academy of Fine Arts in Poland. She found her time as an exchange student in Poland for 3 months to be wildly inspirational. Before graduation she received 1st award for her prints as well as a successful senior exhibition judged by a professional photographer (who commented that he couldn’t believe she had studied photographs for only 3 years).
Her (photo)-essays appeared in Sankei Shimbun Daily News (Japan), Niigata Nippo Daily News (Japan) and N’est-ce Pas? (free paper, Japan).

Her photopoems have twice been exhibited in Kyoto and were published in Musings Journal of the Arts (Norwalk Community College), a magazine Urban Nature(Japanese) and an anthology PS: It’s Still Poetry (Vol 2)in 2022.

The public response to her works has been enthusiastic and moving. Her photographic works are graphically enticing, with stimulating titles that hint at their transcendence. She hopes always to see the beauty around her, no matter where, and is convinced that if expressed in a poem, the world of magical realism is easily entered, remarkably stylish, surprisingly humorous and always tinged with love.

  1. Kohava’s photopoetry is incredibly moving. she seems to see everyday things in a unique and passionate way that we never dream of perceiving. Are any books published with her works?
