
Megumi Kai is a painter based in Yokohama.
Through the creation of Japanese-style painting on Japanese paper using mineral pigments, she vividly expresses the world of nature that amazed her with her singular worldview. The world painted in bright and brilliant colors that give the viewers a warm heart and bright hope uses gold leaf and silver leaf in the base paint to represent the glow of life. Her recent works are themed around water, and she has been working on expressing water by observing it from various angles.
Her dream is to share hope and healing with people around the world through her paintings.
Major awards and exhibitions include the Robert Crowder Prize at the 79th Nihonga-in Exhibition in 2019, a solo exhibition at Gallery Moe L.A, the U.S.A in August and at Arai Gallery in Ginza in December of the same year, the dedication of an eight-panel folding screen painting to the Rikuzentakata Choenji Temple in 2020, the New Color Prize at Nihonga-in Exhibition in 2021, Encouragement Prize at Nihonga-in Exhibition in 2022,and another solo exhibition at Arai Gallery in Ginza every year.
