naomaria created a new art style which she named, Kimono Collage Art in 2013. It was the result of her pursuing uniqueness from other works, based on her prior experiences in creating preserved flower art. This art form, which emerged based on the concept of “intuition”, is her way of crystallizing pure imagination.
She launched this artform in 2015, and since that time, she has exhibited her works at galleries, art museums and cultural heritage sites throughout Japan. In September 2018, she fulfilled her dream of holding a solo exhibition in New York City.
naomaria says that she feels a strong connection with kimonos, which are filled with traditions and techniques that have developed through a long history. Especially antique and retro kimonos, which are all handmade, have quaint tastes with warmth and incompleteness. These always make her feel like she is living in the peaceful era of the 70s. When her distinctive color combinations are added to the kimonos, a nostalgic and warm original work is born. naomaria also creates works of marbling art “suminagashi” and “Ebru” to express the colorful world she imagines.
