Nico Sawada
Japanese Abstract Painting1

Nico Sawada
Nico Sawada was born in Kochi, which is famous for its Yosakoi Festival. Since he was a child, he has been naturally acquiring the fun and beauty of Japanese culture by being around lively and enjoyable festivals and cultures. As an adult, Nico became a graphic designer in pursuit of fun and beauty.
During a decade of various design works, he realized that “painting is a good way to express more fun and beauty.”
In 2020, he started his career as a painter, who abstractly expresses his sensory experiences in Japan from his childhood.
In his mind, “beauty” is the momentary expression of strong will, and it is “fun” to express it with strokes to create empathy.
2006: Awarded for his hard work on his graduation work at Osaka Designer’s College
2009: Honorable Mention at the Tour de Okinawa Poster Competition
2017: Selected for the Nanto City Exhibition
I really love the way Nico uses a mixture of traditional Japanese culture with his whimsical abstract design. The combination is something brand new and exciting!
