Shion kanzato was born in Yamanashi and currently lives in Tokyo. Born in January 1994, she graduated from the Faculty of Arts Department of Nihon University. She sort out, analyze and bring words to her feelings by taking photos, because they reflect the depths of her emotions. The message in her artworks is that negative feelings are not always a bad thing. We all have negative thoughts in our minds by nature, but sometimes they could benefit us. She believes that the negative things we do not want to see, can be accepted as a natural part of life by expressing it in photos. In other words, negative feelings could be good for us. She hopes that she could spread the idea that not everything in this world is pure, and that there are many “beautiful negativities”. She held her first solo exhibition at Brooklyn, NY in 2015. In Japan, she joined several exhibitions in Harajuku and Shibuya. In NY, she is joining exhibitions in Brooklyn and Chelsea.
