tomiwo tanabe was born in Tochigi, Japan in 1983. He was influenced by the bright and
whimsical figurative works of Rodney Greenblat and aspired to be an illustrator during
his high school days.
At the age of 18, he moved to Tokyo to pursue his studies and majored in graphic
illustration. While in school, he was very active in participating in exhibitions in
Shimokitazawa, Tokyo and joining various competitions. As a result, his character
illustrations were used by major Japanese companies, such as Recruit and Uniqlo.
Currently, he is working as a UI designer and creates various illustrations.
His works depict people’s daily life activities, such as café scenes, general occasions,
and other casual activities.
He believes that “Daily events can be easily lost and forgotten due to unfortunate
circumstances like the pandemic. It is the accumulation of these ordinary days that
make the world peaceful, precious, and dramatic.”
