NAOYA IGUCHI
水辺を訪ねて

NAOYA IGUCHI
Naoya Iguchi likes to draw the waterfront of Europe. Many people ask, “why do Japanese people like drawing Western waterfronts?” However, he has no choice because he “wants to draw it.“
He was born and raised in the mountains of Gunma prefecture. He is currently painting the sea and yachts, because he never saw these as a child.
He was fascinated by Impressionist paintings because there is a big difference in how to draw shadows compared to Japanese paintings. It seems that there is a difference in climate and humidity, but he was more attracted to the landscape of colored shadows and the surface of the water.
He quit his long-standing domestic art organization and is currently active in overseas exhibitions and private exhibitions.
The canals and waterways in Venezia, Italy and Honfleur (port town in Normandy, France) often appear in his artworks. Venezia has a unique and beautiful landscape that sets it apart from other countries. Honfleur (old harbor) is closed by a drawbridge, and the water surface is like a mirror that reflects every moment of the day.
He has always wanted to stop those beautiful moments and paint them.
